So I did a thing…

Amber Shehan May 4, 2016

I started a Patreon for Pixie’s Pocket.  I’m terrified. I’m also elated! Those of you who subscribe to my email newsletter will get the announcement today. I’m flinging myself off of a cliff, like the Fool card in the Tarot. Ain’t nothing wrong with being a Fool, you know. (Want a tarot reading?) If you want…

It is terrifying to ask for help. It puts you in a vulnerable place, and vulnerability is a theme I’ve been exploring lately, so I’m not surprised to find myself here.

For many years, I’ve loved writing here on Pixie’s Pocket, but lately I’ve had mixed feelings. As the site has grown, I’ve tried different things like making a media kit, accepting sponsorships, paid advertising…and I don’t like it. It makes me feel dirty.

I don’t like being bought by a brand.

Now, I don’t feel so bad about the affiliates that I am happy to promote, like Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine, the Herbal Academy, Mountain Rose Herbs, Richters Plants, Miso Master Miso, and other companies that I trust and purchase from in my daily life.

But Amazon and Google? Bah. Ick. I would like to kick them to the curb…but I can’t afford to, yet.  Their day will come, oh yes, their day will come!

In the meantime, you can expect a few more posts from me than you’ve seen lately. Posts about my life, my feelings, and the things that are moving and shaking in the world around us (more than recipes!).

In other news…

Ashley English; author, educator, and blogger at Small Measure, just offered a round up of her favorite recipes in a post called “Spring Eats.”  Enjoy it, and subscribe to her blog for beautiful recipes and glimpses of her life in beautiful Western North Carolina!

Do you know about the site Earthineer? It’s a great community site where you can arrange seed swapping or other trades with folks, share and read articles, or just chat with other gardeners and farmers about what is going on on their patch of earth! I learned about Earthineer from Jereme Zimmerman, the author of “Make Mead Like a Viking” and co-creator of the game “Don’t Fall in the Mead Hall

My Pinterest page has been hopping lately! If you’re a Pinner, come join me!

So, what are YOU up to this fine Spring?
